3/15/2019 Contest update
More of my mind today was preoccupied with Monet rather than money, which explains why I’ve posted the weekly update now rather than this afternoon as per my usual schedule.
Biotechs had an excellent week pretty much recovering the prior week’s losses. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 21.73% YTD (vs. 15.90% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 17.86% YTD (vs. 12.17% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 26.70% YTD (vs. 19.94% YTD a week ago) and the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) was up 15.87% YTD (vs. up 11.65% YTD a week ago).
Contest leader BULBA’s portfolio continued its improbable climb and is now up 72.40% YTD. OHM’s portfolio, up 52.63% YTD and SANCTU’s portfolio, up 47.94%, held on to second and third place.
(Although my portfolio performance so far is spectacular, the real test of whether it’s mere luck or my smart stock picking skills will come after the IMDZ reallocation in a couple of weeks. The additional shares added to the other stocks in my portfolio will mean a big drop in my portfolio’s performance in any biotech sell off.)
At Friday's close, 37 of the 39 Contest portfolios were still in the green, with 26 still beating the NBI and 15 now beating the SPSIBI.
The 167 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 29.72% and a median YTD gain of 21.40%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a relaxing weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
