Yeah, it is still a bone of contention even though we have been the Golden Eagles for decades now. It really is not that big of a deal, as a lot of the chants and such just recognize the team as the University (we are Marquette, etc....) I kind of hate it when we are referred to as the Golden Eagles and won't buy any gear with Golden Eagles or the picture on it.

Warriors got tossed when the guy in charge deemed it to be offensive to the Native Americans. Whatever I guess. So instead of keeping Warriors and presenting it in a good light, we tossed it. Eventually we will lose all of our historical context for everything with this political correctness. Everything will be amorphous.

They should have just gone back to Hilltoppers. At one point they trotted out the idea that we should be called the Marquette Gold. That was asinine. At that point in time we were Golden Eagles for so long that we should have either stayed GE or gone back to Warriors with new imagery. They soon saw the error of their ways and switched back to GE. If I recall correctly, when they announced Gold and someone asked DWade about it in an interview after an NBA game his response was something like, what? Your kidding right.... LOL

Yeah, sports team nicks and MU has been a rocky road for decades.

Frankly, I think Wreckers are better than GE, but I doubt the University would see the humor in all of us arriving to a game in a wife beater. LOL

Well, at least we are not the rodents.
