In Arizona, a local community college acquired an unusual name many years ago. As the story goes, one group of supporters wanted competitive athletics. A second group wanted no athletics, instead concentrating strictly on academics. Those folks supporting athletics "won" that debate as Scottsdale Community College has athletic programs. However, winning that argument came at a cost. The academics people got to name the team(s). The chosen name was Artichokes. To this day, as far as I know, Scottsdale Community College is known as the Artichokes.... EK!!!
