Longnshort, I'm seeing this argument spreading among conservatives. "We're a republic, not a democracy."

This argument, IMO, is meaningless. We're a democratic republic. There are several types of republics out there, including a crowned republic which is the form of government that the UK and Australia is based upon.

Other "republics" out there include the People's Republic of China, but the American republic is a lot different than theirs.

The argument that "we're a republic, not a democracy" should be changed to: "We're a democratic republic, not a direct democracy." That has more meaning, especially when used to counter liberals who want to eliminate the Electoral College, the Senate, and other forms of state representation.
