Before you start you need to have two items available before anyone can give you sage advice
  1. What size room will this go in?
  2. How much do you have to spend?

Corollary is does it have to pass the wife test? I have a single buddy who designed and built his own speakers. The speakers are all individually driven by their own amps with each driver getting its own box... and are about 3x the size of his large screen TV and they just sit around in his living room... My girlfriend has never complained about all the gear I have in the living room, she loves the action movies with the big sound from the subwoofer and 7-channel surround... but I'm sure she'd think my friend's living room was too messy... heck, I do too!

I've gotten some great advice and ideas from the weekly column Don Lindich has in our newspaper. His blog is at soundadvicenews.com

Other questions are do you want to spend more on TV or Sound?

I spent about $3K for an OLED 4K 65" HDTV and think it is worth every penny... if you use Amazon Prime to get 4K content and decent internet.

He likes my TV at the top of his list so I know he's not a dummy. ;)

LG OLED TVs

Most Receivers or preamps if you want to get fancy have a place to plug in a BlueTooth dongle so you can stream directly to your Receiver. I think my smart TV does it directly from Youtube so I don't even need a computer if I digitize my music onto a memory stick and plug that into either the TV or the Receiver.
