A bit more context. To all appearances, he was more or less forced to say the anti-Nazi stuff. He hemmed and hawed for a week or so before coming out with it. Those who can parse intonation and body language, something I am not very good at it, claim that he really didn't want to say those things.

Me, I am more comfortable with words. But the words seemed stilted and sort of pasted on. My guess is the "fine people on both sides" were his words and not in his script. .
