I'm not going to defend it because I don't think it needs depending. The two men were bitter toward each other, and Trump had every right to be IMO. McCain had crossed him in a very big way on multiple occasions. But it started when Trump criticized McCain's military service, which was wrong.

But three incidents are far worse than all others.

1. Trump should never have made the comment about McCain's service. That was a first-order blunder that only a newbie to politics would make, and it was a terrible mistake. Still, it is something that is "out there" -- not everyone agrees that McCain's service was impeccable. The group of Navy pilots I was talking with yesterday on Facebook concurred that McCain's services as a pilot were sometimes less than admirable. This is a topic I don't claim knowledge of, other than common sense tells me Trump should have been quiet about it.

2. McCain knowingly handed over the false opposition research of the Clinton campaign, the so-called "dossier" to the FBI. He knew it was wrong, and it was, essentially, an outright attack -- I suppose a response -- against Trump.

3. McCain's "thumbs down" on Trump's health care bill was a spiteful move that all Americans should be angry about. And Trump does not hide his anger. I can't blame him.

The two men couldn't stand each other but it is always to bash a dying or recently dead man. It automatically makes the living one look bad and the dead one to look better.

So, Trump did what Trump did, but it has little to with McCain. I have always honored McCain's military service and continue to, but I did hear some comments yesterday coming from Navy pilots that surprised me. They were younger, and served several years after he was out.

I'm not defending anyone. As I always try to do, I am stating the truth.
