I'd call them "unimaginative". No one said, "Hey, just cuz it takes X days to travel the length of the country doesn't mean we won't be a nation of over 300,000,000 people, where somebody in what will be Arkansas will be able to instantaneously exchange info with somebody near the Pacific ocean, which we will find when we run out of walking space in about 30 years."
