Hi Zeev,

Personal opinion? I think there is a pretty good chance for a spike or two down below $16, but it won't stay there. The reality of the situation is that Far Eastern countries will still require feedstock and energy sources even in declining economies. 1 million barrels per day (+/-) could be removed from demand out of a total worldwide consumption of something like 65 million bbl per day. This last is probably not completely accurate, as I am doing it from memory. That doesn't translate to an extended 20% drop in prices in my mind. I am also assuming that these economies will be sorely stressed rather than heading for complete meltdown.

What I can say for sure is that we have been asked to review but not change our economics on some of our upcoming projects. BP is very conservative when it comes to economic projections anyway, so most of our developments are expected to cross the internal hurdles on $16 oil.

Keep in mind the source of these opinions. I ordinarily work on very large, long term projects that should be completely unaffected by near term price fluctuations. There has been no hint that we should rein in the costs.

Well, gotta go. Off to sunny Pau (at the base of the French Pyrenees). It is one of the compensations of working with the mad French. They serve an excellent lunch as well <g>.
