that is a good point,

automate to enable low skilled to perform complex tasks.

It can be applied to many technical professions / fields:

I was a microwave field engineer on the 70s/80s and to be experienced, you would need 5 years of experience to have gone through all kinds of troubles and be able to act on your own. (or you go do something else if you weren't good

A junior starting could do the job, until something went wrong. slowly he would be learning and would call someone to ask how to solve a given problem.

Then digitalization came. That ported to the microchip many discrete parts and the intelligence moved to the blue print.

It enabled microwave to be deployed by the millions of units on wireless backhaul.
An engineer would hook the system up to a laptop, configure it, and diagnose it.
The system would spit a report out and whatever was in red, meant: no good.
Thus, it became easy to solve the problems, which meant you just replace an unit,

Today, that digitalized HW moved one step up.

It is now 'softwearized'
No longer runs on dedicated equipment,

The SW rus on commercial off the shelf (COTS) computers or bare metal servers. Gone dedicated equipment.

Costs went down dramatically, only requires IT/Wi-Fi skills level to deploy and operate.
