Your second paragraph is about your "want", but the reality is the world is dog-eat-dog. I'm not sure how you attribute it to Trumpism but that attribute was hear long before Trump and will be here long after.

The world is less civilized than it was a few years ago. Through almost all my lifetime it was tending more so, at a snail's pace, but still the arc was heading in that direction. The direction changed with Trump.

As for attribution, I did not mean to suggest causation. Yes, Trumpism was here before Trump. Trump consolidated it, fostered it, channeled it, and rode it to the WH. Before it was diffuse and often in the shadows because it was declasse. Now it has broken out into the mainstream, legitimized in some circles, acknowledged in all circles. Hard to stuff back into the closet.


I would just say that Trump has tried to reduce the scope of government and to foster liberty as much or more than any president I can recall.

Perhaps I was too subtle. I was not addressing Trump's official acts in that regard.

My point was that making legality the standard instead of relying on moral norms would mean creating a whole lot of laws, legislating what had previously been controlled informally by voluntary conformity with accepted behavior. Creating more laws is inconsistent with small government and liberty.
