The grandmother of a friend from college was a frightening example of how to get specifics from a cha bu duo culture.

"Yes, Mrs. Kam, no Mrs Kam," as she would detail how everything was supposed to be handled at the Sheraton Hotel in Honolulu, and "not like this" "exactly like that", and "this particular quality" - and "I want to personally check these before they're used" - and the more inexplicable but quite clear "I don't want them to have to ask for anything".

Hawaii has it's own sort of cha bu duo culture and Mrs Kam was the antidote. I don't know what all of her connections were, but at that time her name was in the phone book in bold print without an address or explanation that rang through to her staff.

Mrs Kam could make specific things happen at specific times and in specific ways, which in Hawaii is sort of miraculous. Her power never derived from Mr Kam. It was simply something she had attained herself.

I assume China must have their own rare Mrs. Kams who can make the culture stand on its hind legs and perform.

She literally radiated power and authority in a way that's difficult to explain.
