<I hope there remains clear support for the independent
developer.>

Amen. Borland made its (original) fortune selling inexpensive
TurboPascal $49 compilers to independent developers while
Microsoft was still ripping them off with a $300 basic compiler.
I sincerely hope the retail stores aren't totally abandoned to Microsoft. I'm sure Microsoft won't withdraw from this channel,
and I see enough walls covered with their products already. If
a wannabe programmer walks into a store and sees nothing but
MS C++ SDK, they'll likely be sucked into the legions of Bill's
bootlicking microserfs. Does Borland's policy of "working with
Microsoft" mean that they're going to cede a whole market segment
just to be left to chew on some crumbs for awhile?
