Top Computer Magazines Reveal, When the Phone Lines Get Rough, Hayes' Tough 56K Modems Get Going
Better, Stronger, Faster and Half the Price of #1 Competitor, Plus a 3-Month Extension on $40 Rebate
ATLANTA, Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Hayes Corporation (Nasdaq: HAYZ - news), a pioneer in communications for the virtual workplace, today announced its best- selling Hayes(TM) ACCURA(TM) 56K data/fax modem was recognized in top industry publications as the fastest modem when real-world telephone line testing was performed.
In the December issue of Computer Shopper, reviewers said, ''The ACCURA 56K's strength lies in its consistent performance. Its throughput of 8,305 cps won the modem top honors on our phone network impairment-combination tests...'' Computer Shopper also noted that ''Installing the ACCURA requires little more that inserting the board into your computer.'' PC Week also stated, ''...we liked its (the Hayes ACCURA 56K data/fax modem) tenacity in providing high-speed links as impaired line conditions forced the other modems back to V.34 connection speeds.''
''Recognition by the editorial staffs of these well-respected publications reinforces Hayes' goal to provide quality products that live up to the Hayes name,'' said David Blazon, ACCURA Product Line Manager for Hayes. ''These achievements verify our commitment to our customers and Hayes' continuing leadership role in the PC communications industry.''
On the price front, the January 1998 Technology Buyers Guide in Fortune Magazine shows the Hayes ACCURA 56K data/fax modem with an estimated street price of $149, half the price of its #1 competitor, U.S. Robotics' Courier V.Everything 56K modem with an estimated street price of $299.95. This price delta does not even take into account Hayes' $40 rebates on its 56K desktop modems, which would bring the price of the Hayes ACCURA 56K data/fax modem down to an estimated street price of $109. Hayes is extending this rebate offer, originally slated to end December 31st, through the end of March, thus giving customers an extra three months to buy this unbeatable performer.
''The tables are turning on our toughest competitor. Hayes is committed to providing the very latest technology to make the Internet fly, at a cost which makes the most advanced technology available to everyone,'' said Dennis Hayes, Chairman of Hayes Corporation.
Although 56K is the latest analog modem speed, many consumers are still purchasing 33.6 kbps modems while a technical standard is being set for 56K. In a recent PC World article, the Hayes OPTIMA(TM) 33.6 Internal Business Modem was rated #1 in the ''Top 1O Modems'' listing. The Hayes OPTIMA 33.6 Internal Business Modem was the fastest modem on the chart, outperforming 3Com/U.S. Robotics' Courier(TM), Zoom's FaxModem(TM) and Diamond Multimedia's SupraExpress(TM). Additionally, PC World noted, ''Hayes sliced $60 off the price of its OPTIMA 336, springing this fast and feature-packed card to the head of the 33.6 kbps modem chart.''
Hayes was one of the first modem manufacturers to announce free upgrades to the 56K technology standard once it is determined by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). Hayes expects to be one of the first modem manufacturers offering the free upgrade to the ITU standard once it is determined in early February.
