Another Indonesian anecdote: My broker out in Jakarta tried to withdraw all his Rupiah from a local bank but they would only let him have Rp40m (US$4,000) and then they would only give it to him in Rp5000 notes - ie carrier bags full of money! He then went over to Citibank to open an account and the place was packed. They are opening 15,000 accounts a week in Jakarta as depositors get more and more nervous about the banking system.
