The following is from a newsletter on stocks.
Dick Davis Toppers. The current issue of the Dick Davis Digest features numerous "top picks for 1998." Syrza's Medical Investment Letter likes Titan Pharmaceuticals (TTNP), 5-1/8, with a target of 15, based on its "developing portfolio of biopharmaceuticals to treat cancer and neurologic disorders.."We believe Titan's $75 million market value overlooks the potential of its products, particularly iloperidone, a novel antipsychotic just entering Phase III trials. Iloperidone belongs to a new class of drugs --atypical antipsychotics --to treat schizophrenia, which affects 13 million patients in the U.S. and Europe.
In possibly the hotter play of the day, Taipan says "Without question, the best oil story in Central Asia is Kazakhstan," which he claims could become "one of the world's wealthiest developing nations over the next several decades. But you won't have to wait that long: we predict it will be one of the hottest emerging markets in 1998." Taipan, in his inimitable way, believes he's got a killer pick: a "Kazakh oil producer so cheap that it's a no brainer. Currently trading at 6 times 1998 estimated earnings, Hurricane Hydrocarbons (HHLAF), 6- 5/8, deserves to trade in the lower teens immediately-- and in the $50s by year 2000. As a conservative play on Kazakh oil, buy Hurricane under $10 with a one-year target of $20 and a three-year target of $50." |
