ACRODYNE INDUSTRIES ANNOUNCES CONTRACTS WITH
PAPPAS TELECASTING BUSINESS EDITORS AND

BLUE BELL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--January 20, 1998--Acrodyne
Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: ACRO.O) has been awarded contracts by
Pappas Telecasting Companies to manufacture and install Diacrode(R)
equipped UHF transmitters at WSWS-TV in Opelika, AL, and Channel 63 in
Merced, CA.
Acrodyne will install an Au60D 60kW transmitter next month at
WSWS-TV as phase one of a 180kW transmitter upgrade project. The 60kW
transmitter will be moved to a new site, and combined with a new 120kW
transmitter to complete the upgrade. The Au60D is being installed now
at the existing transmitter site to assure reliable transmission
during new site construction. Phase one of the project is valued at
approximately $500,000.
A 10kW transmitter will be installed at Channel 63 in Merced, CA,
to take advantage of the LPTV ruling to permit low power broadcasters
to increase ERP to 150kW. The Acrodyne TRU/10KDM air-cooled Diacrode
based transmitter is a high performance product for LPTV and full
service transmitter requirements. The transmitter and accessories are
valued at approximately $250.000.
Dale Kelly, Pappas Senior Vice President and Director of
Engineering, has ordered three Diacrode(R) equipped transmitters from
Acrodyne in the last six months.
