My personal first gut analysis. Rahm Emanuel and his machine have the goods and power to dictate, punish and reward the "state's attorney"

I believe Emanuel was going to get kicked out of office by someone outside the machine and that would make so many machine political crooks vulnerable to exposure. Not just the city but also in the state. It could go as high as including the obamination.

So the smollett whitewash is about Emanuel's outrage in a political moment. That moment will dominate the news and the talk. It's just about getting re-elected. And after the election or before his outrage will see the charges reinstated. Emanuel the hero of the people blah blah.

It will also go national taking over from no collusion.
