I have no idea for the price difference other than its a different cable provider. I guess they figure they can gauge all you techies with your million dollar stock options LOL.

I got a couple of emails with some comments and additional questions:

While I follow the @Home thread on SI, I am not yet a member. Therfore I can not post messages to the group. I have been waiting and hoping someone would provide an email address so I could pass on some information that mightbe helpful to those on the thread. There have been many questions asked regarding competition, who makes the modems, why is it taking so long to get @Home into areas, etc. I have found a Web page that, in layman terms, details rather well the "world" of cable modems, the variouscompanies currently offering a cable internet service, and additional information that would go a long way towards answering most of those questions. It is called CABLE MODEM INFO CENTER and it is maintained by CABLE DATACOM NEWS. Here's a hyperlik to it: cabledatacomnews.com. >>

<<Rust Muirhead asked abouy my experience relative to installation. Specifically: what was the pre-screening process like when you
called for the service? What kind of PC do you have? How many people cameto do the install? Were you already a cable customer? Did you have an existing cable outlet in the room where your PC is? If not, how long did it take to run the new line? How long did the entire install take? Were their any quality control procedures you could detect that the installers were following? Any discussion by the installers about install problems they'veencountered?>>

I think you have to have a pentium or higher. I have a 200 MMX, so there was no problem. When I called they did asked detailed question regarding my computer, didn't think to asked them what the minimums were. Yes I was already a COX customer, it is an extra $10 a month if your not, not sure about installation cost though. My cost was $150 with a 30 day money back guarantee. Two people came to install, one was a cable guy who had to install a seperate line to my computer the other was a programer who set my computer up. I took about 2 hours to install. They say they do about 3 to 4 a day. There was a two week waiting list to get mine installed. The programmer went through the main features with me and answered all my questions to my satisfaction.
