Traumatic Bonding

Ginger, Scott, Ram, Scott and Jim. - this month's issue of Inc. has a very enlightening article - 'The Ties That Bind' by Dr. Steven Berglas - Inc. Magazine pg 29 Jan 98.

Apparently a management team can suffer from the same problem as the abused spouse who keeps going back to her/his abuser. In the case of a management team, alternating verbal abuse and praise makes the managers psychologically dependent on the big boss.

Dr. Berglas tells us that management teams can be very irrational if they are caught up in this type of relationship. The team is seriously demoralised but yet they are hanging around for the occasional pat on the head. The managers also feel absolved of any personal responsibility for failure because they can blame the tyrant boss!
