It happened something similar to the Jews in medieval Europe. They could no join the guilds to become shoemakers or blacksmiths, and in absence of that became financiers. Not sure I told you that. I crossed Canada from Halifax to Victoria in Vancouver Island. I was surprised with the number of restaurants service Chinese and Canadian food. In Halifax the locals complained that the nigh clubs were most owned by foreigners, Greeks and others.
