The VAST majority of wealth is nothing more than a byte in the financial system - fugazi. The worth is based on our social contract to say nothing of the Bill of Rights (which guarantees a right to personal property. Those bytes can be transferred into hard assets (food shelter, energy, entertainment) at a fairly constant rate. However, that relationship is dependent on our assumption that the "social contract" is a core foundation of our system.

Once you break the social contract, those bytes will plunge in value as will your currency. Nothing has value that can be taken away on a whim.
