Viatel Expands Management Team; Names Mount SVP of Network Operations; Piazza to Head Carrier Sales

NEW YORK, Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Viatel, Inc. (NASDAQ:VYTL), a facilities-based provider of national and international long-distance telecommunications services, announced two new additions to its senior management group today. Francis J. Mount has joined the company as Senior Vice President, Network Operations and Jan S. Piazza has been named General Manager, Carrier Sales. Mount, a 30-year veteran of the international and domestic long distance industry, served most recently as a Senior Vice President for Primus Telecommunications Group. He joined Primus following its acquisition in 1997 of USFI, Inc., where he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Mount's previous experience includes positions at MCI as Executive Director of Global Technical Services and AT&T International. In his new position, Mount will oversee network operations for Viatel's growing global network. Piazza comes to Viatel from TelePassport, an international telecommunications business unit of Primus, where she served as General Manager. Previously, Piazza was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for USFI and held a number of senior sales and marketing positions at LDDS Worldcom and three precursor organizations that were acquired and absorbed by Worldcom. Piazza will be responsible for all global carrier sales activities for Viatel.
