in the present time..There is a reason humankind dominates the planet and why some countries dominate within that sphere..

the balance between capitalism and socialism is crucial

If the balance goes too far either way we implode..

Humans dominate for two reasons..

Our animal spirit with our big brains (competitiveness and capitalism expresses that)

AND

our sense of altruism towards our species (not leaving survival to chance) Easiest example is WWII allies or North South volunteer aid between out two countries in crisis times regardless of what nonsense the politicians are cooking up

I used this metaphor many times on SI and started long ago..

The idea that some stranger is going to help pull you out of a ditch when you are in trouble ... just because.. it is the right thing to do.. That happened to me actually when I blew a trailer tire on my way to Yellowstone..

A Young mn by the stereotypical cowboy name of Cody :)) stopped with his pickup.. lots of tools.. a big smile.. ;polite and helped me out .. I'll never forget that kid...
