It is the hope of the Republicans to make AOC the face of the Democratic party so they can paint the entire party as "socialist" so they can run against that particular straw man. It is a desperation move in a lot of respects. For one, I don't they will be successful. AOC was just elected. It will be hard to pretend she represents the entire party. At best, you can say that she represents a growing portion of the party. But that is still a far cry from the entire party. For another, the portion of the population that automatically recoils at the label "socialist" is rapidly dying out. It may play to their base, but it isn't going to mean much outside of it.

One of the biggest problems the Republicans have, outside of Donny Short Fingers himself, is that their bag of tricks is very depleted at this point. Starting about the time of Reagan, they have had to play all sort of tricks to get and maintain power. And they have done pretty much nothing to come up with new ones. At best they have just slapped some paint on the old ones and trotted them out. Over the decades many of their tricks are just worn out.
