I understand what you are saying, but what was predicted simply didn't happen. Nobody predicted China. China buys our debt. They have no choice if they want to run a trade surplus. The reality is China ships goods into the US and we give them worthless IOUs in return. Everyone is happy! A well worn quote is appropriate here. "When you owe the bank a $1M, you have a problem. When you owe the bank $10T, the bank has a problem." China is our bank.
