They get welfare benefits through their children.

Once an illegal has a child born in the US, i.e. birthright citizenship, they can get the whole spectrum of benefits for that child. SNAP, Medicaid, rent vouchers, subsidies for their utilities, and many more. Each additional child adds to the sum total. The breadwinner of the family is eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit. On top of the EITC, Trump's new tax plan gives money back to the bottom layers of society thru the expanded child credit. In other words, even those who don't pay federal taxes can file for the new child credit now whereas previously, the exemption for each child could only be used to reduce the amount of taxes due.
