No, I have $900 foreign tax credit in current year (2018). I could only use $586 and have to carry the rest.

I don't know all the details anymore. The tax programs figures it all out.

My AGI is $63K, and there is that $24K deduction. I have a bunch of qualified Dividends and about $10K in capital gains which I think is taxed at 0%.

Line 11 shows a tax owed of $586 and line 12 uses $586 of the FTC to get a line 15 value of $0.

I start calculating my taxes in December and adjust my income to get the correct number... ZERO!
