Why would I want to buy a 56K modem from COMS in March (when the standard arrives) when I can just wait 8-9 months for a 1.5Mbit modem that stays connected all the time?

1) It's not available in your area at all. I doubt it will appear everywhere in 8-9 months. Bell Atlantic, my NYC telco, says 2nd half 98 to begin offering the service. Who knows when it really will be.

2) When it is available, if you more than 2 1/2 miles from the telco CO, your too far.

3) If you can get it it will be more expenseive. Bell Atlantic would only tell me under $100 a month and you stll have to get an ISP on top of that.

4) If your a corporate user it may not be supported by your IT department for a while.

5) Corporate road warriors can't get ADSL on the road.

6) Joe six pack says "ADSL who?"

Those are the ones that come quickly to mind. I suspect the price will be further from $100 rather than closer but who knows. I'd probably go for it but I doubt it's a sure thing for everyone.
