Let's get one thing straight. 56K modems are really 46K modems in most instances. 56K isn't all over the world, there isn't even a standard yet.

This is a trimmed down version of xDSL that is cheaper and simpler. Besides, these cable modems that everyone seems so bullish about aren't cheap either and they are far from broadly deployed.
