I don't think Jobs ever said that. He did say once that even Gates would have been more effective had he at least tried acid, and I agree with that. It isn't right for everyone; I found myself to be fine with the Purple Microdot and Orange Sunshine, for example, but Window Pane, know for the "head trip" was miserable for me (I did have an allergic reaction on Sunshine once and had to go to the hospital while tripping, which was not comfortable, but it worked out).

Taking acid allows you to understand what the true limits of the mind are. It does give you a sense of where the boundaries can be found.

OTOH, I'm one of the few who have shown up for an English test on Animal Farm peaking on Sunshine. It had six essay questions and I got the same answer on all of them. Luckily, my paper on the topic of LSD gave me an offsetting A letting me get through the class with a solid B.

But the point holds. While your mind is expanded you're a lump of coal. But the after effects are lifelong and overall positive. You don't ever look at things the same way, and you quite literally open a new dimension of creativity. At least, I did. I don't recommend it or not recommend it, but I believe it does have positive effects.

I believe Jobs when he said it was beneficial. But I did know people who used it to no advantage, who went overboard with experimentation, and ended up like Syd Barrett.

I also believe Mescaline/Peyote has benefits, although less extreme, but certainly safe.
