My Medical Aid here is with DISCOVERY HEALTH.
I have the suspicion that they may also have a presence there in the USA.
My Medical Insurance is with AMBLEDOWN and they provide GAP COVER which pays out up to 5 times the Tariff Rate that the Medical Aid pays out for doctors, specialists, etc, when one is in hospital.
So if a surgeon charges, say, $500 and the MA rate for that surgeon is, say, $300, then AMBLEDOWN will pay me the $200 difference, as long as I'm in hospital.
And as I mentioned, the MA will pay for everything while I'm in hospital. That is all part of a MA's HOSPITAL PLAN.
Therefore, the way to go, in my opinion, is to have a HOSPITAL PLAN plus GAP COVER. In that way one is completely covered, financially, if one has to go to hospital, and all of that costs about $180 a month. For a husband and wife it will be about $260 a month. |
