You can't compare the AMTX buyout to AWRE

AMTX was actively courting suitors because it was absolutely out of cash. It had to make a deal and make one fast. IMHO the AMTX investors were very fortunate to get the $20/share. This is not the situation with Aware. Aware has adequate finanical resources (~$30 Million).

From reading Pat Mudge's posts (she is very close to the action at AMTX), I got the strong impression that there were a number of AMTX insiders (Dr. Cioffi) who were very upset at the buyout.

Anyway, we can argue this ("Yes", "No",...) until we are blue in the face. But the truth is neither of us has enough inside info to really have an informed opinion.

But I think that it strongly benefits the small Aware investors that Aware remain an independent company as long as possible, because that will only cause the buyout price to rise. So I don't see a buyout happening in the immediate future (next 12 months).

I have also been hearing rumors that IBM might buyout Netscape, because IBM has the financial resources to go out against MS (in the free browser market) and they need to be in the enterprise net-server arena.
