"If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence. The origin of myths is explained in this way."

-Bertrand Russell

I think Mr. Russell's quote may need some modification to allow for penny stock investors. PTOI and many other scams have gone well past 'evidence is overwhelming' and solidly into 'absurd'. Fraud, deception, a decade of excuses at to why one of the most amazing inventions of the 21st century just can't be run and why the company doesn't want to spend a dime to fix it, etc..., etc... .

I suspect penny stock scams are akin to religion when it comes to unconditional faith. After years or even a decade or two, investors have so many neurons devoted to believing in the scam story that it no longer matters if new developments are farcical. Even if they were willing to face the hard truth if needed, there are just too many layers of neurons dedicating to accepting the scam as a fundamental truth that unraveling the scam in their minds would be virtually impossible. It's easier to just keep believing the farce.
