dmf - Re: " Intel is, like so many others, not wanting to depend on Microsoft..." Intel's and Microsoft's interests often overlap and often are in conflict with each other. As for Merced, I'm sure Microsoft has a real interest in seeing this succeed. But Intel is COMMITTED to MAKE IT SUCCEED - with or WITHOUT Microsoft. To that end, a SOLARIS/SUN arrangement is very advantageous to Intel and SUn but not Microsoft. As for a Merced version of Windows NT, Intel is committed to that OS as well - in more ways than most people realize. Paul
