Projectavision Reports Strong Response AtCES Show; Unique Point-of-sale Presentation for Dealers Unveiled
January 20, 1998 02:23 PM
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 20, 1998--Projectavision, Inc. PJTV today reported a highly positive response to the company's Digital Home Theater (TM) unit from dealers and retailers attending the 1998 International CES Show.
Projectavision also unveiled a unique, attention-getting multimedia point-of-sale presentation that will help authorized dealers communicate the benefits of Projectavision, and the quality of service they provide to their customers. Customized for each participating dealer, the CD-ROM presentation for dealers' showrooms provides an engaging demonstration that highlights the unique features of Digital Home Theater (TM), explains the innovative technology, and enables customers to get a glimpse of the unit's superior display.
"We are very pleased by the positive response Digital Home Theater received at the show in Las Vegas," said Martin Holleran, chief executive officer of Projectavision. "We generated several thousand new sales leads from dealers and retailers both at our own booth and at the Texas Instruments booth where the unit was showcased along with other products using TI's Digital Light Processing (TM) technology. We also signed up a number of new dealers, and launched an exciting custom CD-ROM presentation program that will help our dealers showcase Projectavision and differentiate themselves in a crowded retail market. We believe this is the first time a manufacturer has offered its dealer partners this type of customized multimedia sales tool."
A number of Digital Home Theater (tm) dealers offered similarly upbeat assessments of the response the unit generated. "I have seen Projectavision at two previous shows, and the unit looked better than I've ever seen it at CES," said Peter Horvath, general manager of Systems Design Group in Redondo Beach, California. "The unit delivered a really bright, cohesive picture like you see at the movies, and people really liked the fact that it has a smooth image without any pixels. My customers would prefer to stay at home with a big screen projector than to deal with crowds at the movies. That's why I'm selling more Digital Home Theater units than any other projector."
According to Bjorn Dybdahl, owner of Bjorn's Audio Video Store in San Antonio, Texas, many dealers at the show discovered a new sales opportunity with Projectavision - the business market. "The unit did a great job displaying data in business presentations and surfing the Internet, and I think that opened a lot of our eyes to the opportunity that exists with business and boardroom applications in local markets. We have already started advertising the product to the businesses in our area," Dybdahl said.
Digital Home Theater (TM) is the first 100% digital projection unit that combines a large front or rear screen VGA or SVGA computer display, a 60-inch rear projection television and removable front projector that projects beyond 240" diagonally. It is the first consumer product to utilize Texas Instruments' two-chip Digital Light Processing (TM) (DLP) (TM) technology that produces a crisp, flicker free image with no distortion or loss of brightness when viewed from almost any angle. DLP (TM) employs an advanced microchip that allows both video and computer-generated images to be reflected with their full color spectrum intact.
Projectavision's Digital Home Theater (TM), which retails for $10,000, and SOLO-1 (TM), the front projector unit which is available separately for $8,000, are sold at leading electronics retailers.
