When I was young, I had a rule to keep my commute to under 30 minutes *without* a car. I kept that rule for almost 20 years. Then due to house, kids, and obligations, I had to relax it to under 45 minutes - which I still keep. For the record, since I am a professional consultant, I've had to live and work in many cities for extended periods of time, including Toronto, Montreal, New York, L.A, Sidney Australia, Parish France, London UK, among others.
