I've a collection of old rare cars.
Some done and some basket cases.
They are worthless in a box, but over my life,I've bought some cars that have very rare, and if restored, a good value.
When I was 18 I knew I was going to attend GMI, so I bought a 54 corvette and a 55 nomad - not pristine by any means. Actually when I restore a car, it gets down to even new correct nuts and bolts as everything gets disassembled to one piece.
The 54 vette is 85% done and in my air conditioned "inside garage" in Houston.
The nomad I've attempted to finish 3 times ,and got "burned out" redirected to other of life's problems. This mid-July, I'm slotted to take it to a "Nomad Specialist", who has done about 20 complete restorations. Since my car has been stored for 48 years, it actually is not much of a big restoration. There are now completely new floor pans now produced for 55-57 nomads - something I did'nt have back when I was 17. Since I was programmed through high school to attend college, I could not take shop classes. So I attended night school and took welding courses. Then I found a 55 chevy with 15,000 miles that had suffered a front end hit, but had a like new floor pan, so I cut it out and replaced the old rusty floor with a like new floor pan. Well now they make new front and back (back is my problem). So it goes to a welding specialist (of which I'm a newbie) and he'll fix my mistakes and then do the back.
In between I'll do the drive train and rolling chassis (which I've done several times).
That will be good prep to finish my 57 fuelie and I have two cars to pick the best pieces of to max the restoration - I'll be busy for 2-3 years.
The challenge will be to make the body straight as glass and get the fuel injection running like it should.
That will be a huge challenge and a lifetime achievement for me.
My portfolio allows it , yet I'll still watch as I love it.
BUT! Time to finish some too long unfinished tasks.
I've worked hard to be able to do it and I enjoy it, as long as there is no pressure to get'm done on a time schedule.
It's a fun challenge, for me.
