Propaganda in general.

What I've learned from my observations is that modern scientific propaganda is not big brother type posters... or government broadcasts.

Everyone's world outlook is molded by their culture. We don't run into propaganda we swim in a sea of propaganda.

We believe certain people are beautiful because the totality of advertising convinces us we are not, so we buy to compensate.

We adopt the religion of our region.

I am suspicous that susceptibility to propaganda is similar to the genetics of IQ. An IQ of 100 is in the middle at the top of a bell curve. Most people are somewhat susceptible to propaganda also in the middle of the bell curve. On one end of the curve are people who are totally skeptical and immune to propaganda, on the other are people who WANT to be told what to believe.

So you CAN be very intelligent... and still be susceptible to propaganda. This would explain how very smart people believe very foolish things.

The father of scientific propaganda: Edward Bernays combined his uncle Freud's theories with sales to create it.

Adam Curtis' documentaries have influenced my thinking immeasurably. They are both fascinating and frightening. Curtis though is an optimist. The best IMO:
