I think Ted Kazynski was the only free man in America. He just loved
sending people bang up post cards if their name was Woods or they work with wood somehow. Now except for that slight quirk he was obviously completely sane. You can see how people with that connection are dangerous technocrats.

I don't think that you could convince me that any serial killer is the slightest bit rational. Rational acting and rational are not two sides of the same coin. The courts cannot reconcile psychopathia with insanity, they can only recognize disintegrated personalities with a lack of responsibility, yet disintegrated people are incapable of the purposeful action it takes to commit wrongful plan and so are unlikely to commit crime. Whereas a committed purposeful wrongdoer who recognizes the nature of his actions yet cannot give any reason for them is supposed to be "responsible" somehow. It is impossible to carry out a complex plan without an integrated personality and recognition of the nature of an act yet it is impossible to not have a reason to do so without a faulty mechanism inherent in assigning purpose and therefore ultimate responsibility. The essence of sanity is reason and purpose, bereft of it a man is ship without a rudder. It is just as bereft of reason and mob blood lustful to kill the psychopath for societal revenge.

I wonder if revolutionaries are sane by the classical definition?

Was Hitler sane?
