North American smartphone sales dive in Q1

North America smartphone sales hit a five-year low in Q1, according to Canalys data.

Shipments dropped 18% Y/Y to 36.4M units.

Apple ( AAPL -1.3%) topped the vendors with a 40% market share, but annual growth was down 19%.

Samsung ( OTC:SSNNF, OTC:SSNLF) took second with a nearly 30% share and 3% growth.

Rounding out the top five: LG with 13% share and 24% decline, Lenovo ( OTCPK:LNVGF) with 7% share and 42% growth, TCL with 4% share and 31% growth.
