Bottom line is that unless 5G requires a new phone to take full advantage of the upgrade in speed it could be a while before I buy into the next generation of phones. I have a Samsung Note 5 which I plan to keep until 5G phones are available at a reasonable price. 5G will require new hardware unless you have one of the very latest models like Samsung's S10 5G. Since the networks only have a few areas with 5G, I'm in no rush. BTW I thought my battery was failing on my 3.5 year old model, but Verizon has an OTA check available to make sure all battery cells are functioning. Mine checked out OK although the charge life is definitely dropping. If it drops to the point I cannot tolerate it, I believe a new battery is only $90 installed, or $10 for battery if you DIY (I wouldn't dare try having seen on YT how it's done).
