Thank you for posting that. I have not had much time to follow

or think about things, including these miserable things championed by the country's lead chump. Strangely, I came to almost the same exact conclusions last week, though I am no expert. The only (small) place where I deviate from Sven is that I thought the tariff-raise was somewhat pre-planned ...... in the sense that I suspect they knew they were not getting the deal they wanted and had to respond somehow or look like bigger jackasses then the jackasses they already look like.

Think about this:

Option 1. Lighthizer (probably a well-meaning, honest sort, but decidedly a number-crunching bureaucrat who is better fit for an accounting job than big-picture dynamics) and Mnuchin (in my opinion, probably a "been around the block" financial hoodlum) talked to the Chinese over about a dozen meetings and had absolutely no clue that things were "off".

Option 2. Lighthizer and Mnuchin knew they were sliding down the drainpipe, but with a Low-IQ version of Mussolini-with-a-stick behind them had no choice but to keep sliding until they hit the unholy matter at the bottom.

I'll go with option 2, I think. It fits more in line with "threat, time pressure, desperation".

I can't believe that people in this country have been so overrun by clods. It's as if we have been taken over by an army of naked emperors, and are so captivated by the flailing old testicles that we can't seem to find and pay attention to a little boy somewhere who surely must be screaming that they have no clothes on.

Edit: Does the Chimp even have a clue that once the farmers are decimated and their buyers have found new sources, all the screaming in the world will not bring the buyers back to an unreliable place?
