<<Gwimp?. Page 4 of patent, top paragraph ("Phentolamine, which has been shown to...) There are problems in this reference and in this paragraph.>>

Sorry, I don't understand. If I had to guess, since I still haven't gone to fetch the patent application, it says that Phentolamine produces erections and quotes a reference or two. I have been able to find reference where Phentolamine by itself works, and even the J Urol article says that it works 1 in 15. I'm a little unclear on what it takes to make a fraudulent patent application. I think if you claim to have done something that doesn't work that just means that you have a useless patent. Some legal help would be appreciated if someone cares to expound.

Thanks for the fax offer, but I don't have a usable fax modem setup and no good fax number :( One day I'll make it into the information age.

I thought it might be useful to post where I got the phentolamine alone info so here goes: (To all, sorry for the lengthy post, if this is useless information please mention so and I'll stop posting these.)

Compositions and method for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Kock, Nils G.; Lycke, Gerhard. (AMSU Ltd., UK). Eur. Pat. Appl., 8 pp. CODEN: EPXXDW. EP 357581 A1 900307. Designated States: R: ES, GR. Patent written in English. Application: EP 89-850282 890831. Priority: SE 88-3087 880902 CAN 113:165436

Abstract

A lipophilic active substance compn. is provided, as is its use in a method for treatment of erectile dysfunction by administration of the compn., with optional antibacterial agent, into the urethra. The active substance may be an a-receptor blocker, VIP, a prostaglandin, or nitroglycerin. Thus, a patient was administered, via the urethra, 60 mg of phentolamine; 30-70 min from administration of the active substance, full erection was achieved. The effect of compds. of the invention, alone or in combination, in the treatment of impotence in cystectomized patients is tabulated.

I won't post the whole abstract but can if you would like to see the whole thing. (It's kind of long!!)

The skinny is:

The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of emotional disturbances on erectile response to ICI in impotent patients. Initially, 24 young men with non-org. impotence (age 34.6 yr) were selected and randomized single-blind to pharmacoerection with PGE1 alone (20 mg/mL) or a mixt. (cocktail) contg. 20 mg PGE1 plus an a-adrenergic receptor blocker, phentolamine (Phe, 0.5 mg/mL). Addnl. studies were also performed double-blind on 10 men with non-org. impotence (age 37.6 yr) utilizing higher PGE1 dosages for ICI (25 mg/mL alone or in combination with Phe, 0.5 mg/mL)

What they found was:

ICI with 20 and 25 mg/mL PGE1 led to a comparable percentage of patients who reported a valid-for-intromission (VFI) erection (63 and 60%, resp.). In contrast, use of the cocktails significantly increased the percentage of subjects with a VFI (87 and 90% of the total no. of patients tested, resp.). Moreover, a strong inverse correlation between state-anxiety scores (Stai-X1) and the erectile response to ICI with 20 and 25 mg PGE1 was found (r = -0.69); such a correlation was not present in patients who underwent ICI with the cocktails.
