I hope you are right.

I think it is a definite possibility that this trade thing is not going to get solved anytime soon and that China is going to mount a major fight and they are going to exploit the upcoming elections. It's no accident they went after soybeans already...the impact of their retaliation is being particularly felt in swing states...Missouri, Indiana. This is deliberate. I've seen several articles on how their retaliation is carefully targeted...maybe paranoid GOP'ers but I don't think so. This is exactly how they work. And Trump is responding well. YOu were right, GZ, they have targeted aid to those farmers. So far he's countered these Chinese moves.

The Walmarts and KMarts etc) are pretty heavily tied to China. Retail is going to get beat up some when these next tariffs kick in. There's a lot of money there. I think this fight may just be getting started and may not be done until after the election.

I have a growing feeling that this thing could morph into perceptions of military and national security for both sides. The Chinese name for themselves is Jungwo (I was a China major for about a year and studied the language and history)...it means central kingdom. They see themselves historically as the center of the earth. Some have the intention of regaining that number one spot. Most of the private companies and companies most heavily involved in stealing our technology are actually owned by big shot army people there...like Huawei. Their military is very heavily involved in trade and trade policies. And we have a growing feeling here they need to be stopped and are posing a greater and greater threat to our military security. This thing could get settled in two months. BUt it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't and if it morphed into a much bigger longer range battle with even bigger stakes including who our next President is. The Chinese have won a lot of the first stages of this race so far and may conclude they can best us in the long run and go for broke....(and there's no question they will be right if they get to negotiate the final agreement with Joe Biden or Beta O'Rourke. Carmella Nasty Harris or that nasty Warren lady might mess with them a little but they aren't nearly as smart as they think they are.)

All I'm saying is there are alternative ways this could play out and it could turn into a much longer term power struggle. Just throwing out the notion this could turn out to be bigger and much longer term than we suspect right now.
