The Justice Department is leaning against approving T-Mobile US Inc.’s proposed takeover of Sprint Corp. because the remedies proposed by the companies don’t go far enough to resolve antitrust concerns, according to a person familiar with the review, Bloomberg News reports.

Opposition by the Justice Department on competition grounds would mark a major setback to T-Mobile and Sprint hours after winning support earlier Monday from the Federal Communications Commission chairman Ajit Pai. His endorsement came after the companies proposed a package of commitments to win regulatory blessing for their $26.5 billion deal.
