I am all for an "empty" planet - I think over 2/3 of the population is unnecessary and we are chocking the planet under our weight.

The idea that we need perpetual economic growth is highly dangerous and impractical. At best it is a Ponzi scheme that will collapse. At worst we will self destruct (and take the rest of the planet with us) just as any organism that does not achieve balance with its environment does.

What the world needs is a good steady-state with continuous scientific, artistic, and social progress rather than economic growth.
