How to compute the CLX and CLXPP. Breeze.

If you read the thread on the CLX you'll learn how to compute the CLX. I did many years ago and I created a spreadsheet to compute the CLX and CLXPP each day. Its a arduous process and its a credit that Cheif does it by hand. I was able to automate the process by scraping Yahoo until Yahoo changed access to the data. Stag has gotten around that issue. I believe he now posts his CLX and CLXPP results in the link on this site.

I wrote how to compute the CLX and CLXPP on 12/18/2014:

How is the CLX computed?

Each day each Dow component is assigned a value of 1, 0 or -1.

The assigned value for a Dow Component (i.e., IBM) is based on two factors: the day over day change in closing price and a comparison of a calculated cumulative volume. The volume comparison is the complex part of computing the assigned value. For example if a the daily price change goes negative and experiences successive price declines then each day the assigned value is 0 until the cumulative volume (related to the negative price change run) exceeds the cumulative volume of the prior positive price run. When that happens the assigned value a -1. When the daily price change goes positive the assigned value is 0 but it doesn't get assigned a value of 1 until the cumulative volume (related to the positive price change run) exceeds the cumulative volume of the prior negative price run. I won't go into the reset of that cumulative volume as its a complex. So price change and cumulative volume are the key to the assignment of a 1, 0 or –1.

The daily CLX is the sum of all the Dow Component assigned values for the day.

How is the CLXPP computed?

In the above description I referenced volume. In computing the CLXPP that volume is divided by the closing price and the result is the volume used in computing the CLXPP.

The CLX thread provides an example for you to follow.
