Are any of the standalone, non-subscription video editing apps for Windows any good?

I truly don't know which is why I'm asking. I've done a minimal amount of editing on my Mac using iMovie 10, but it's not very intuitive (iMovie 9 was much better).

Apple's big dog is Final Cut Pro X, a Mac-only program. It's a $300 one-time cost, and I hear it's a decent editor now, though it was not when first released as it had functionality missing from the previous version and it was really buggy. They even made a joke video about it on Conan O'Brien's show at the time:

I know many Mac pros were ticked off about it and moved to Adobe's solution, which at the time was not subscription-based.
