From all that I have read about xDSL versus cable Internet access, I believe that there will be a good market for both. xDSL will be particularly popular with businesses, since they do not have a cable option. This is the market that xDSL will be targeting, primarily. Cable access will probably be more prevalent in the home, however some significant xDSL market penetration may come about. It all depends upon how quickly xDSL ramps up relative to @Home. An advantage of xDSL is that about 50% of homes can get it without copper upgrade (this according to @Home's own web site). Compare this with 2-way HFC readiness of cable, pegged at 10%. OTOH, the xDSL market is fractured, with no real standards and no leader, although a recent push by some big companies including MSFT is attempting to get an xDSL effort on-track. I am also wondering how quickly the 2-way HFC readiness of cable will occur, given the cost of doing so and the fact that the cable companies are so debt-laden. Does @Home have any control over the upgrade, or is it effecting it in any major way?
